Description
In joinery and cabinetmaking, marquetry is the application of sheets of wood glued as a coating to a joinery assembly. In a more restricted sense, for a given piece of furniture, the veneer is the set of sheets it contains.
Originally, this technique was mainly used to render precious woods (produced in small quantities, from far away, ...) or marquetry, on a wood more suited to the structure (because it was cheaper, easier to work, more durable or any other quality).
